Interacting with others isn’t always easy but it is necessary. It’s called COMMUNICATION. Communication is the beginning and the end of everything. Where would we be without it? To put it simply, without communication we wouldn’t know how to get our thoughts and ideas across to others. We wouldn’t know what they were trying to say to us and sometimes that can actually be a good thing. But let’s face it. We really need to communicate with others if we want to advance in life.
In order to get along in the world, as we move from one level to the next, we take in information. This is called learning. Learning, growing, or developing in any way, is accomplished by communicating. When others share information with us and when we receive that information, it is communicating.
The expression of information with others goes beyond words. This means that when we communicate, we can do so without the use of words by using nonverbal cues, or actions. So how do we do this? Have you ever heard the expression, “It’s not what you said, it’s what you did.” Or, what about the expression, “Actions speak louder than words.” These expressions tell us that the actions the individuals took said so much more than any words they could ever say.
Nonverbal cues or actions can be used in so many forms. They can be used in facial expressions, the way we dress, the way we walk. Nonverbal cues can even be used in the way we listen to others. Did you know that nonverbal cues can even be used in the eye contact you give to others and in your posture? People are paying attention to the things you say and the actions you take so please be careful when you are trying to make a good impression.
The impact of good communication can affect so many areas of your life. Not only can effective communication impact your career, but it can also impact your personal relationships, your goals, it can impact every single area of your entire life. Because of the major role communication plays in all areas of your life, you have to make sure you take steps to communicate as effectively as possible while remembering that different situations call for different types of communication.
